I'm not smiling |
Have you ever imagined how terrible these telecommunication
companies can be? The most annoying ones are the ones found in Nigeria.
Of all of them, four stand out in
the business of provoking their customers, they are: MTN, Airtel, Glo and
Etisalat. Airtel goes ahead of them by calling you with real numbers every
now and then. ANNOYING! Ponder on this..!
Imagine you are expecting an alert from
your bank so that you can process one or two things that border on you and all
of a sudden your phone beeps, with all joy you dive for the phone only for you
to find out that it is a sms asking you to subscribe to one God forsaken
service or the other, how would you feel?
To increase your level of anger,
some of them go the extra mile of calling you with real numbers, (initially, it
used to be 5-digit numbers) only for you to find out that it is just one of
their tactics of forcing their ads on you!
Now, let us see how provoking
these can be on you as an individual…
1. Assuming
you are in area where it is difficult to charge phones, due to one reason or
the other, and these calls and text messages bombard your phone on a regular
basis, how would you feel?
2. The
rate at which these calls and attention can distract you! Assuming you are in a
meeting or a place where movement is a bit restricted, don’t you think these
calls can be embarrassing? Don’t tell me to switch off my phone! I deliberately
put it on because I want to receive an important call or sms.
3. Infringing
on your rights. How on earth won’t I be able to control the contents that enter
my phone at any given time? They send you whatever they like and also expose
you to their bulk sms customers to do the same to you.
NOW, let us look at some of the ways we get ourselves involved in
all of these mess.
THE UNCONSCIOUS BACK DOOR
1. The
very first way we open the door to them unknowingly is by subscribing to their
caller tunes services and their likes. They get your numbers from there and
store them in their banks for future use.
2. Attaching
your numbers to online forms. When you fill any of these online forms or
comment areas which ask for your phone numbers, unknowingly, you have sold
yourselves off cheaply. With the aid of special applications and software, anybody
can “crawl” around these websites, extracting phone numbers from them for
bombardment later…lol.
Poor me! I didn't even know. |
NOTE: most of the sms we receive on regular basis are not from the
Network Service Providers but their affiliates. Don’t ask me how they get your
numbers!
At times, they even buy your
numbers from these online site managers, where you might have subscribed to one
service or the other or they do the gathering themselves.
